Contribution of Type Ia and Type II Supernovae for Intra-Cluster Medium Enrichment

چکیده
The origin of the chemical composition of the intracluster medium (ICM) is discussed in this paper. In particular, the contribution from Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) to the ICM enrichment is shown to exist by adopting the fitting formulas which have been used in the analysis of the solar system abundances. Our analysis means that we can use the frequency of SNe Ia relative to SNe II as the better measure than MFe,SNIa/MFe,total for estimating the contribution of SNe Ia. Moreover, the chemical compositions of ICMs are shown to be similar to that of the solar system abundances. We can also reproduce the sulfur/iron abundance ratio within a factor of 2, which means that the abundance problem of sulfur needs not to be emphasized too strongly. We need more precise observations to conclude whether ICMs really suffer the shortage problem of sulfur or not. Type Ia and II supernovae contributions to the metal enrichment in intra-cluster medium observed with Suzaku
We studied the properties of the intra-cluster medium (ICM) in two clusters of galaxies (AWM 7 and Abell 1060) and two groups (HCG 62 and NGC 507) with the X-ray Observatory Suzaku. Based on spatially resolved energy spectra, we measured for the first time precise cumulative ICM metal masses within 0.1 and ∼ 0.3 r180. Comparing our results with supernova nucleosynthesis models, the number ratio...
متن کاملThe IntraCluster Medium: An Invariant Stellar IMF
Evidence supporting the hypothesis of an invariant stellar Initial Mass Function is strong and varied. The intra-cluster medium in rich clusters of galaxies is one of the few contrary locations where recent interpretations of the chemical abundances have favoured an IMF that is biased towards massive stars, compared to the ‘normal’ IMF. This interpretation hinges upon the neglect of Type Ia sup...
متن کاملXMM - Newton Spectroscopy of the Cluster of Galaxies 2 A 0335 + 096
We present here the results of a deep (130 ks) XMM-Newton observation of the cluster of galaxies 2A 0335+096. The deep exposure allows us to study in detail its temperature structure and its elemental abundances. We fit three different thermal models and find that the multi-temperature wdem model fits our data best. We find that the abundance structure of the cluster is consistent with a scenar...
متن کاملConstraining supernova models using the hot gas in clusters of galaxies
Context. The hot X-ray emitting gas in clusters of galaxies is a very large repository of metals produced by supernovae. During the evolution of clusters, billions of supernovae eject their material into this Intra-Cluster Medium (ICM). Aims. We aim to accurately measure the abundances in the ICM of many clusters and compare these data with metal yields produced by supernovae. With accurate abu...
متن کاملOutflows from ellipticals: the role of supernovae
Models of SN driven galactic winds for ellipticals are presented. We assume that ellipticals formed at high redshift and suffered an intense burst of star formation. The role of supernovae of type II and Ia in the chemical enrichment and in triggering galactic winds is studied. In particular, several recipes for SN feed-back together with detailed nucleosynthesis prescriptions are considered. I...
